Skype will be discontinued in May 2025

In today’s fast-paced world, the way we communicate has rapidly evolved. From simple text messaging to high-quality video calls, technology has made our daily communication faster and more dynamic. Following this trend, Microsoft has announced that Skype will be discontinued in May 2025, and the focus will shift to Microsoft Teams (free version) as the primary communication platform.

Teams offers many familiar features that Skype users know and love—such as one-on-one calls, group calls, messaging, and file sharing. Additionally, Teams provides advanced features like hosting online meetings, managing calendars, and creating or joining communities.

Millions of users around the world already rely on Teams for their daily communication at work, in education, and at home. In fact, the time spent in meetings by everyday users has quadrupled in the past two years, showcasing the platform’s growing value and efficiency.

What Skype Users Should Know:

Skype users now have two options to choose from:

  1. Switch to Microsoft Teams (Free):
Users can log in to Teams using their Skype credentials. Once logged in, their chats and contacts will appear automatically in Teams.
  2. Export Skype Data:
For those who do not wish to move to Teams, there is the option to export chat history, contact lists, and call records.

Skype will remain operational until May 5, 2025, giving users time to explore and transition to Teams.

Getting Started with Teams:

  • Download the Microsoft Teams app from the official website
  • Log in using your Skype account
  • Your chats and contacts will be ready to use automatically

Changes to Skype’s Paid Features:

Skype’s paid offerings, such as Skype Credit and call subscriptions, are no longer available to new users. Existing users can continue to use their subscriptions until the end of their billing cycle. After May 5, 2025, the Dial Pad will only be available via the web and within Teams.

Our Thanks to You:

Skype has played a vital role in the evolution of modern communication. We are grateful to have been part of your important moments.

We understand that change can be difficult, but we are here to support you every step of the way. With Teams, we are excited about the new possibilities and remain committed to helping you stay connected with ease and flexibility.
